Preparing your Job Application

  1. Always number your pages: Preferably put 'Page 1 of 5' on each page in the footer  to ensure your pages are not misplaced. This can happen unintentionally and render your application incomplete.
  2. Always put your name at the top or bottom of each page: Either make it a header or footer or put it in one of the corners. Make it prominent but not huge i.e. font size 12 bold.
  3. Always spell check your application and then get someone else to proof read it: Check your spelling and grammar. Have someone you trust give you honest and constructive feedback on how you can improve it.
  4. Please don't provide an entire cover page for your name and address: Do not include letters of reference, certificates or diplomas in your application. Instead, you may want to bring them with you to an interview.
  5. Observe page limitations: Less is more. There should be a maxium of six pages which includes your Resume/CV and your statement of claims against the job requirements/ selection criteria. If your application looks best at four pages, it is best not to try and 'pad it out' to six.
  6. Hard copy or email applications may be submitted: If sending via email, the best formats for applications are MS Word or PDF.
