General Practitioner Anaesthetists' Locum Scheme
General Practitioner Anaesthetists' Locum Scheme (GPALS) is an Australian Government funded Locum Scheme especially for GP Anaesthetists throughout rural and remote Australia. Managed by the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA), GPALS began in late 2009 as a cost-free initiative to provide support to the medical workforce and to help rural and remote communities maintain access to quality anaesthesia services.
GPALS function is to:
- Recruit GP Anaesthetists and Specialist Anaesthetists for Locum work throughout rural and remote Australia, and
- Facilitate GP Anaesthetist locum cover in rural and remote Australia to eligible Hosts, who may be an individual GP Anaesthetist, a hospital or a practice.
Access to the above subsidies may also be facilitated when an eligible Host arranges their locum cover privately and the Locum also meets the eligibility criteria.
For more information or to apply visit the National Rural Locum Program website, email the GPALS Program Coordinator at gpals@fed.asa.org.au or call 02 9327 4022.
