Programs & Services
The Rural Doctors Network (RDN) offers a range of services, programs and activities that:
- assist rural communities and rural General Practices to find suitably skilled and qualified General Practitioners (GPs) to work in their towns;
- assist suitably skilled and qualified GPs to find employment in rural NSW as GPs (this includes both Australian and International Medical Graduates);
- support existing rural doctors including provision of Professional Development activities, information, succession planning;
- assist in finding locum support for rural and remote GPs;
- assist rural communities and general practices in regards to GP entity structures; and
- provide a range of scholarships, support and information for students studying medicine or health related degrees in NSW.
The RDN also:
- works with local communities, governments and rural Area Health Services on medical workforce matters;
- works with University Medical Faculties to promote rural medicine;
- works with rural Divisions of General Practice to support rural GPs;
- influences government policy to support rural medicine; and
- maintains a rural health database.
