Recruiting, retaining and supporting General Practitioners (GPs) in rural New South Wales, Australia.

Become an RDN Locum

Locum Employment in New South Wales

Many suitably qualified and experienced doctors trained in Australia and overseas take working holidays or choose part time work as rural locums. Spending time as a rural locum is a fantastic opportunity to experience general practice across rural NSW.

The Rural Doctors Network (RDN) employs salaried locum GPs. Doctors employed through RDN provide locum support for permanent doctors who require short term leave from their Practice. The RDN endeavours to organise a balance of remote, rural and coastal positions for locums. This is usually as a series of short term (two to four week) appointments.

Contract Conditions

Full-time Locums (six months or longer of continuous employment) receive the following assistance (if applicable):

  • organisation of registration with the NSW Medical Board,
  • organisation of provider numbers with Medicare Australia,
  • assistance with permits to work as a VMO at rural hospitals,
  • organisation of a sponsored work visa,
  • mentorship/professional assistance, and

Casual Locums (ongoing regular work for at least two weeks periods) employed by RDN receive the following assistance:

  • advice and administrative assistance with NSW Medical Board registration (if required),
  • organisation of provider numbers with Medicare Australia,
  • support and assistance with practice placements and day to day administration, and
